Slow Flow + Stretch

A Slow Flow + Stretch practice helps you relax, feel rejuvenated and includes half the number or just as many of the poses you might practise in a regular Vinyasa Flow class. The pace is meant and geared to be meditative, emphasising inner peace and calm in both the mind and body.

Some of the poses are held for a little longer than others, and we typically take several rounds of deep breaths in each pose, insteading of moving to each breath. Because of this mindful, slow pace, a Slow Flow + Stretch class is less intimidating for those who are newer to yoga and nursing any injuries. This is also a great practice for those a little senior and less flexible.

Stretching is very much emphasised in a Slow Flow + Stretch class but there is also room to work on strength in some of the longer held poses. Those with a busy mind and with the tendency to move from one thing to the next might find the class rather challenging, however, this is one of the main reasons we practise yoga. In a world where ‘hustle culture’ is fast becoming the norm, we do need to find moments to slow down and experience some calm in our daily lives. This class provides the opportunity to do just that.

We also find that the Slow Flow + Stretch is a great accompaniment to our faster-paced Vinyasa Flow classes. The meditative movements and longer holds allow for greater ease and comfort in moving with confidence and agility in other classes.

The Slow Flow + Stretch is also appropriate for tight-bodied athletes, those with desk jobs and anyone who is struggling with flexibility and chronic stiffness. The class includes a varying series of poses that support in building both strength and flexibility in mind and body, in order to experience ease of movement.

A typical practice begins seated in a pose of your choice, either on the ground or sitting bones resting on a cushion or block. A gentle warm up opens the head, neck, shoulders, arms, chest, side body and spine. We incorporate a few twists, forward folds, backbends, hamstring stretches and hip openers as part of the main sequence and cool down with a deeply relaxing savasana.

Hi, I’m Shabna and I am a Yoga Alliance accredited teacher. My classes at Revive are based on the simple philosophy of living better and longer. You will experience that instead of harder and faster, the slow flow and stretch, and vinyasa classes invite you to soften and find ease, move at your own pace and comfort level, mindfully. This way, you will grow to be the best version of yourself, both on and off the mat. This is the beauty, joy and gift of yoga and I look forward to sharing it with you soon!
